Anne Hathaway has been awarded the title of World's Most Beautiful by People magazine. In an interview accompanying this annual honor, the 43-year-old actress, known for her role in The Devil Wears Prada 2, revealed that she spent "decades" feeling uncomfortable in her own skin.
When asked about her awkward phase, Anne candidly shared, "For decades — decades. I think I had the longest unbroken awkward phase in Hollywood. Actually, I think mine extended until my late 30s." She reflected on her teenage years, expressing, "I just didn't feel like I could get comfortable anywhere. I couldn't quite find my footing."
As a child, she struggled with communication, admitting, "I found talking really difficult. So I had a bit of stress and anxiety around just, like, communicating."
Anne also recounted having experienced "multiple" beauty disasters throughout her career, primarily due to her lack of understanding of the "language" of beauty. She explained, "For about 10 years I was asking for my hair to be done a certain way, and it never went the way I wanted. And then finally I showed someone a picture." She realized that what she meant by texture was loose soft waves, and now she always brings reference images to her appointments.
This year, Anne has five films set to be released, including Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and Verity. She praised her husband, Adam Shulman, for his unwavering support, stating, "He supports me completely. This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it's probably never going to happen like this again."
She described Adam as "the most extraordinary person I've ever met" and expressed her gratitude for their partnership, saying, "If I didn't know that before this past year, I think I really know it now because with absolutely everything he's just, he's on it. He holds it down." She added, "I hope that doesn't sound like I'm bragging, but he's a dream partner to me."
The Princess Diaries star appreciates the teamwork she shares with Adam, 45, as they raise their sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. She expressed, "It's one thing to have dreams. It's another thing to have somebody who helps you achieve them. I absolutely would not be able to have achieved what I've done without my husband."
